Sick, sick, sick (aka Week 9)

25 June 2023

Well the inevitable finally happened. A nasty little cold took me out of action this week. All started after last week’s Blue Mountains trip. Started feeling tired on the drive home, and then crashed and burned. I’m not sure if it works this way, but happy to have got it out of the way now rather than in the days before the race.

For those playing at home, that means this week I've missed out on the world's most random fartlek session (a jumble of different zone work, with a minute Z2 breather in between each - 1min on Z4, 1 min in Z2, 3min in Z3, 1 min in Z2, 2min in ZX etc etc), a longer version of the Progression Run I've done before (incrementally getting quicker over the course of the run, till you finish in what's basically a sprint), and the weekend longys was meant to be 2 hours. All with the usual slower runs in between. Shame to miss it all.

Not a lot to reflect on this week on account of the lack of running and, therefore, running associated musing. What I will say though is that I really noticed the extra time I had not fitting in the kms! I work most of my weekly running into my commute, so rather than being squished into a bus I’m using that time to get training in. But it really felt this week like I had oodles of time at my disposal, particularly in the mornings. Perhaps just the extra 20 mins (it’s only a short bus ride), or not having to sort out my gear, is enough. I’m not going to quit running just to get that time back but it certainly was nice to have that bit of extra time for the week.

Just as I had a week off, so too can you. See you next week (if I’m better!).
