Getting better. To take time off. (aka Week 11)

9 July 2023

Another full week off sick. I used to try and run through sickness but I really don’t want to prolong any of these so have been taking the time off. We’re off for a week in the snow next week (lucky us!) and so with that and the two weeks lost to sickness I’m a little worried about where my training is at. Need to get a big run in to get the confidence back that I’m still on track.

What I should have done this week included:

  • A ‘Steady State Run’, which would have had me doing 45 mins (post warm up, and with cool down after) in the mysterious Zone X (or Zone Twitter as we now know it); and

  • One of my favourite hard sessions, the ‘Accelerations Run’, which has two blocks (11 mins and 3 mins) where you need to slowly increase your speed from Zone 2 to a flat out sprint at the end. Hard to regulate the speed increases (can’t rely on the trusty Garmin for these), but it keeps you focused and distracted for the block while you manage it. Or it would have, had I done it.

Beyond that, I won’t waste too many words here this week. Instead, see my first (hopefully of many) real articles over here: Correcting the Top 5 Running Misconceptions. It’s a top 5 list, of course, because the internet loves them.
